What if you are focused on the wrong thing?

Many years ago, I read a fairly popular book while stuck in one of my cubicle jobs.

I listened to it on Audible, as I had a lot of time to kill each day.

Is anyone out there working all 8h? Nope, good.

𝗜𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹-𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀.

He went on several, if not many, auditions and kept not getting callbacks or outright rejection.

His process or idea was what was in it for him in each role. He went into each audition thinking about what that role would do for him.

After this went on, he decided to take a different approach.

𝗛𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘂𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

The casting director, producer, and director had problems to solve, and casting roles were big problems.

Now, he started to get more attention and started to get those callbacks. He eventually started to land some of these roles.

Everything changed as soon as he switched from how he could benefit to how he could help.
